An enormous thank you to James Goode!

27/11/2025

We would like to say an enormous thank you to James Goode who raised a whopping £1235 for Alzheimer Café Isle of Wight by taking part in the Great South Run!

"The race event itself was quite an overwhelming experience, with over twenty-five thousand entrants. I had not run more than seven miles beforehand but to me, seven is nearly eight and if I can run eight, I must be able to do ten!

The distance was slightly daunting, so was the weather - cold and wet - the final two miles are known to be brutal, and they were, straight into the wind and sometimes horizontal rain.

I was buoyed up with the almost party atmosphere and the sheer number of runners, all with their own personal reasons for running, a large percentage running for charity.

I placed about 15,000-odd in the field, with about 10,000 behind me, my official time was 2h 00m 44s - for an asthmatic 51yo who only started running less than a year before, I was very happy with that and even more happy and overwhelmed by the sheer kindness and generosity of all my friends, family and complete anonymous strangers who donated!"

A huge congratulations and an even bigger thank you to James for his support for Alzheimer Café Isle of Wight and to everyone who donated and helped James smash his fundraising target!

All of the money James raised will go directly to Alzheimer Café Isle of Wight and Parklands Dementia Resource Centre. With donated funds we are able to continue providing education, support, signposting, and a listening ear to anyone affected by dementia living on the Isle of Wight.
