​Help Involving People Isle of Wight test whether a phone app could help find skin cancer

Involving People Isle of Wight are working with Wessex Cancer Alliance to understand if people would use a smartphone app called SkinVision to check for changes to their skin. The app is designed to spot early signs of skin cancer and help people decide when to see a doctor. We want to know what different groups of people think about using it.

Why are we doing this?

• Skin cancer is common in the UK but much easier to treat when found early.
• More people in Hampshire, Dorset and the Isle of Wight are booking GP appointments about skin concerns.
• Most (87%) of face-to-face checks turn out to be nothing serious.
• There are a limited number of skin cancer specialists, so we’re exploring other ways to make sure people at higher risk are seen quickly.

• SkinVision might help people decide if and when they need medical advice.
