Barry Jackman and Laura Gaudion went on Vectis Radio this week to discuss the progress on our Parklands project! If you missed the program, you can listen to their podcasts to catch up on the latest episodes!
We are fully booked for our November quiz night!
Thank you to everyone who has booked a table, and for those who didn't manage to get a ticket, we'll be running another quiz night very soon! A big thank you to Barchester's Charitable Foundation for awarding us £500 towards gardening equipment for Parklands! We fundraise round the clock and as well as generous donations from the public and fundraising events and activities run by our volunteers and the community, we work with a number of charitable foundations to ensure we have the funds to keep doing what we're doing!
We use all of the money we receive to continue running our monthly cafés, and make our future plans become a reality, and every donation really does make a difference. Thank you again to Barchester's Charitable Foundation, and to everyone who supports us throughout the year. Barry Jackman is a key member of the Alzheimer Café Isle of Wight team, and as well as presenting and educating around the Island, he has done a lot of work at our two prisons. Here, he talks about meeting former bodyguard to Nelson Mandella, Chris Lubbe, who recently visited the Island to talk to the inmates.
Read on for Barry's experience. Due to the awful weather we've been having and the storm that we are forecast to get over the next few days, we have made the decision to cancel the Ryde Alzheimer Café on Friday 3rd November.
We look forward to seeing you on Friday 1st December for our Christmas Café! I am the equality Advisor for HMP IOW and also manage social care. HMP IOW is comprised of an older prisoner population with approx. 40% 50+ years old. This population demographic raises issues around health and social care needs including diseases such as dementia.
A huge thank you goes to The Ladies of Cowes who organised a fashion show which was held at the football club and raised a whopping £967.55! We are extremely grateful for all of the fundraising that our community does to raise money for Alzheimer Café Isle of Wight. The kindness and generosity of local groups and individuals is not only hugely beneficial to keeping our cafés running year after year, but also continually motivates us to work harder than ever to support those who need it.
If you would like to learn more about volunteering or fundraising, click here or get in touch here! If you are living with a longterm condition or experiencing mental health problems, or you're supporting someone who is, why not come along to the East Cowes Health Roadshow where you can meet representatives from peer support groups and organisations that can help.
We will be there, so please come and say hello! MyGivingCircle is a social enterprise that helps charities like Alzheimer Café Isle of Wight and this year they are giving away £500,000 to worthy causes such as ours.
If you have a spare minute, please head on over to their website by clicking here and vote for Alzheimer Café Isle of Wight! It only takes a minute and every vote gets us a little bit closer to receiving some money towards running our cafés! Thank you! Join us for another fun filled evening of trivia!
We're hosting a quiz night on Thursday 30th November and we'd love to see you there! Assemble your team of brain boxes (max 4 people) and see if you can become the AC Quiz champions! There will be a bar at the venue, and we'll also be running a raffle with some fab prizes. Email info@alzheimercafeiow.org.uk to book your tickets - and get in there quick, we usually sell out fast! |
