Please share and help us reach more people looking to make a BIG difference A huge thank you to Shanklin & Sandown Golf Club for choosing Alzheimer Café Isle of Wight as their charity of the year! We are incredibly grateful for their support and can't thank them enough for choosing us and for the amazing fundraising activities they've run so far!
We say it a lot, but we are always blown away by this amazing Island community! "Shanklin & Sandown Golf Club are delighted to support Alzheimer Café IOW as the Captains’ chosen charity for the year, led by Dorian Cobb, Club Captain, and Vicki Guildford, Ladies Captain. Throughout the Captaincy year, club members have come together to take part in a wide range of fundraising events, from golf competitions and raffles to cake sales and themed social days. The club is proud to support a local charity that provides such valuable help to people living with dementia and their carers across the Island." We would like to say a HUGE thank you to Emma & Kirsty Dennis from Dennis HQ Boutique & Coffee Lounge in Shanklin.
They raised £102 from a raffle they ran at their fashion show! "We at Dennis HQ Boutique in Shanklin’s High Street, held our 5th Fashion show last Thursday 4th December, showcasing our Sparkle Season outfit clothes and accessories, inspiring 50 Local ladies, with a couple who travelled from the mainland to attend, in several outfits to create different looks. At the end of the evening we held a Prize raffle where lots of local & small businesses including The Fighting Cocks, BonnyGoo Bar, Shanklin, Mercy Nails in Shanklin, Needle & Tide & Mint & Wight all donated raffle prices. We collected £102 in Raffle ticket money & we have chosen to donate to Alzheimer Cafe IOW as this is a charity close to our hearts!" Thank you Emma and Kirsty! Maureen will be stepping down as one of our Totland Alzheimer Café co-ordinators and will be greatly missed!
Maureen has been attending Totland AZ Cafe for many years as she use to attend with her husband. After COVID, she kindly offered to take on the joint role as co-ordinator with Paulette as she wanted to give back to others the support that she had previously received. She has been very supportive to both Paulette and our volunteers is a lovely lady who is liked by all! We'd like to say an enormous thank you to Maureen for all of her hard work and for the kindness she has shown to all of our café guests. Thank you Maureen! The good news is, Maureen will continue to volunteer at the Totland Café so you'll still see her friendly face when you visit! From Involving People Isle of Wight:
Involving People Isle of Wight are working with Wessex Cancer Alliance to understand if people would use a smartphone app called SkinVision to check for changes to their skin. The app is designed to spot early signs of skin cancer and help people decide when to see a doctor. We want to know what different groups of people think about using it. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/DGYFDM6 Why are we doing this?
More information can be found here: https://involvingpeople.org/project/skinvision/ We would like to say an enormous thank you to James Goode who raised a whopping £1235 for Alzheimer Café Isle of Wight by taking part in the Great South Run!
"The race event itself was quite an overwhelming experience, with over twenty-five thousand entrants. I had not run more than seven miles beforehand but to me, seven is nearly eight and if I can run eight, I must be able to do ten! The distance was slightly daunting, so was the weather - cold and wet - the final two miles are known to be brutal, and they were, straight into the wind and sometimes horizontal rain. I was buoyed up with the almost party atmosphere and the sheer number of runners, all with their own personal reasons for running, a large percentage running for charity. I placed about 15,000-odd in the field, with about 10,000 behind me, my official time was 2h 00m 44s - for an asthmatic 51yo who only started running less than a year before, I was very happy with that and even more happy and overwhelmed by the sheer kindness and generosity of all my friends, family and complete anonymous strangers who donated!" A huge congratulations and an even bigger thank you to James for his support for Alzheimer Café Isle of Wight and to everyone who donated and helped James smash his fundraising target! All of the money James raised will go directly to Alzheimer Café Isle of Wight and Parklands Dementia Resource Centre. With donated funds we are able to continue providing education, support, signposting, and a listening ear to anyone affected by dementia living on the Isle of Wight.
